The Education and Training Officer (Child Safe Communities) through Fiji Council of Churches (FCC) will work at the grassroots level with communities to promote child safeguarding and child protection with the theology of churches and share resources developed by churches.

The Education and Training Officer (Child Safe Communities) will work with FCC to develop training modules and deliver training sessions for communities in Fiji, applying a faith-based, strengths-based and child rights approach to build capacity at the community level.

The approach will be based on ‘Safe strong communities’ program that already exists and provides business opportunities for women and youth and child protection awareness raising prevention and referral at the community level.

The assignment will support communities identified by FCC and prevent practices that put children at risk of harm. In addition, the Officer will support communities to identify risks that can be associated with voluntourism. The Officer will strengthen child-safeguarding practices for these communities.

The assignment will also support Community Development Committee’s (CDC’s) to develop and implement child safeguarding policies and practices in the existing Community Development Plans as core responsibility towards the protection of Children. This will assist towards the protection of children from exploitation and abuse in tourism and volunteering and strengthen everyday child safeguarding practices amongst communities.
