About the Role

Are you seeking a broad and varied therapist role with outstanding development opportunities? If so, this may be the role for you!

We are seeking new graduate applicants to fill our annual “New to AQ” graduate position

Access current, autism -specific, internal professional development and orientation and benefit from weekly supervision with a senior therapist.

In this role you will join an experienced team of allied health professionals and registered teachers primarily providing a combination of consultation and direct intervention services throughout Queensland to schools, families and other professionals as they support children and adults with a diagnosis of ASD.

As Autism Queensland has moved into the landscape of the NDIS, this role will also provide individualised programs through centre-based and outreach services for people of all ages on the autism spectrum as well as intervention within AQ's centre-based early intervention group programs, as required.

This position can be offered on permanent full-time or part-time basis for the right candidate. 

The position is based at Sunnybank Hills or Brighton but some flexibility will be required to travel occasionally between the two sites. 

Due to current travel and social distancing restrictions, school visits are being provided online and remote working may be possible. Once restrictions are lifted, some intra-state travel may be involved (subject to how many days per week you are seeking to work and your work interests).

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary degree qualification or equivalent in Occupational Therapy
  • Demonstrated understanding of contemporary methodologies in the provision of OT services to children on the autism spectrum /developmental challenges and their families
  • Proven knowledge of child and adolescent development, communication, social interaction, learning and understanding and managing behaviour
  • Demonstrated understanding in the design and implementation of direct (individual and/or group) and consultation-based intervention, which is responsive to the individual needs of children/young people, their families, and other relevant stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with families and professionals in addressing the additional needs of children/young people on the autism spectrum or other disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within an inter-disciplinary and/or trans-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents, professionals, and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing

Special Conditions

  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner’s Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Current open Driver’s License
  • Frequent intrastate travel up to five days per trip, three to four times per term and some out of normal hours work
  • May be required to use own vehicle for work purposes when an AQ pool vehicle is not available
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to hold a current, recognised Provide First Aid qualification
  • Certificate of Completion in NDIS Worker Orientation Module “Quality Safety and You”
