About the Role

Autism Queensland is seeking a Mentor for our Studio G program in Mackay, who possesses skills in editing, photography and social media, to work in our digital media program for young adults with Autism.

Studio G is a post-school transition program suitable for participants aged 16-24 years and consists of interactive workshops led by content experts that support young people with autism in transition to employment, training or further education by assisting them in the development of interactive media and gaming skills.

Autism Queensland employs Content Experts (mentors) with experience in screen-based creative design and project development to lead participants on a journey of creative project development. The structure allows participants to grow at their own pace, with the assistance of their mentors.

This position is based in Mackay and is offered on a permanent basis to work Mondays to Thursdays from 1pm to 4.30pm, during school term-time only.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and develop strong and purposeful mentoring relationships with young people
  • Proven ability to support self-directed learning and individual, participant-led, project-based programs
  • Demonstrated high-level knowledge in Digital media skills and training, particularly across editing, film making, photoshop, Final Cut, Premier Pro, You Tube and Adobe suite including editing, sound design, animation
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a member of a small team
  • Understanding and acceptance of the need to establish and maintain professional boundaries while promoting independence and social inclusion of participants

Highly-regarded:

  • Demonstrated understanding of autism and best practice in supporting young adults on the Autism Spectrum in vocational education / training settings
  • Tertiary qualification in an IT-related field
  • Proven employment experience in an IT-related field
  • Current, recognised First Aid qualification

Special Conditions

Candidates must also have (or be willing to apply for / obtain)

  • A Blue Card and Yellow Card Exemption
  • Current, recognised Apply First Aid qualification.
  • Certificate of Completion in NDIS Worker Orientation Module “Quality Safety and You”
