About the Role

Our specialised multi-disciplinary Education Support and Therapy Services team has an opportunity for qualified, committed and passionate Behaviour Support Specialist to provide positive behaviour supports to children and adults on the autism spectrum.  Support services may include 1:1 sessions, group intervention programs, school based consultancy, home and community visits.   

This role is being offered on a permanent basis, preferably full-time although part-time for the right candidate, with potential for flexibility with start and finish times depending on client and service needs.

While the primary base is at our Sunnybank Hills site, the role will require some flexibility to work at our Brighton site at times, dependent upon the needs of clients and the service.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Functional Behavioural Assessments and develop, implement, monitor and review Positive Behaviour Support plans in accordance with Restrictive Practices legislation and guidelines
  • Work collaboratively to conduct and develop Functional Behavioural Assessments for complex cases as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Work collaboratively to support the development of Positive Behaviour Support systems and culture across Autism Queensland
  • Support the implementation of Behaviour Support plans for children and adults on the autism spectrum, including the provision of training and coaching where appropriate
  • Utilise a range of assessments and evidence-based interventions that are responsive to the unique needs of clients and to inform problem solving to address individual needs
  • Participate in relevant community and professional networks

Skills & Experience

  • Minimum tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Education or other relevant field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in accordance with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework
  • Demonstrated working knowledge and understanding of evidence-based practice regarding the delivery of positive behaviour support within diverse environments, including home, school and community
  • Demonstrated working understanding of the relevant legislation, policies and procedures and standards impacting on the delivery of services for people across a range of contexts
  • Demonstrated Case Management skills including establishing effective helping relationships, conducting assessments, developing intervention plans and working together with clients to provide support and meet identified needs
  • Demonstrated commitment to person-centred approaches and contemporary principles of service delivery within a context of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, parents, professionals and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain work quality and performance during tight schedules

Highly regarded:

  • Prior experience in using the NDIS Quality and Safeguards behaviour portal
  • Prior experience in submitting Positive Behaviour Support Plans to the Office of the Public Guardian or Chief Delegate

Special Conditions

  • Registration or membership of the relevant professional registration authority or professional body and/or meets the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s eligibility requirements for a Core Behaviour Support Practitioner
  • Current open driver’s license
  • Travel to other Autism Queensland sites will be required
  • May be required to use own vehicle for work purposes when an AQ pool vehicle is not available
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to hold and maintain at their own expense, a current Criminal History Screening Card/s or relevant Exemption Card if/as required by current legislation
  • It is the responsibility of the employee to hold a current, recognised Provide First Aid qualification
  • Certificate of Completion in NDIS Worker Orientation Module “Quality Safety and You”
