About the Opportunity

Our Community Living Team supports adolescents and adults with Autism living in small group homes to live ordinary lives in the community.

We are currently seeking Residential Support Workers for full time, part time and casual opportunities. You'll be an enthusiastic, kind and compassionate person eager to learn about working with people with Autism and positively contribute to someone’s life through your work.

We have a range of opportunities available across the metropolitan area. Full time work involves a regular rotating roster of three 2.5 day live in shifts worked over a three-week period. In each period, you will enjoy a 9 day break off duty. Part time and casual work includes a variety of morning, afternoon, evenings and weekends shifts. Regular work is availability, so reliability is essential.

About the role

As a Residential Support Worker, you’ll work with a small number of adults living in a group home to maximise independence and develop life skills. This can include things many of us take for granted such as cooking, cleaning, personal care, or attending appointments. Each shift is individualised to the person you will be supporting and based around their needs, interests and hobbies – imagine a role where your day might include kicking the footy, spending time in the garden or going to the beach, all the while making a positive difference in someone’s life.

About you

Firstly, we are interested in your attributes and attitudes. We are seeking people who demonstrate:

  • Kindness in your thinking and actions – you must be able to demonstrate that you put the person first.
  • Understanding that every person is different, and regardless, equal in value.
  • Patience for people and their differences – you must be able to demonstrate that you have the resilience to remain engaged even when progress is challenging.
  • Connectedness to people – you must be able to demonstrate that you have the ability to find common ground, build rapport and connect to people who are not necessarily like you.
  • Confidence – you must be able to demonstrate the ability to respond to situations in a manner that supports positive outcomes.

We also want to know about your knowledge skills and abilities, specifically that you have:

  • Highly developed verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Sound and fast decision making and problem solving skills.
  • Good domestic skills.
  • Ability to support someone with activities of daily living and personal care.

To be considered you will also be required to have a current influenza vaccination, and satisfactory national police check and background clearances.
