We are seeking newly graduated occupational therapists or speech pathologists who are looking for a unique opportunity to kick-start their career to join our expanding School Aged Therapy team as part of our 6-month graduate program. This opportunity provides an ideal steppingstone for new therapists towards the role of a confident and independent clinician within our specialised Therapy and Clinical Services team at the Autism Association of WA.

About our Therapy and Clinical Services Team

The Autism Association’s School Aged Therapy team support with children aged 7-17 years. Our trans-disciplinary team approach enables us to draw on the strengths of therapists from different professional backgrounds. We meet with the individual with Autism, their family and other important people in their life to discuss the goals that are important to them, working together to develop a plan that outlines the best way to achieve these goals. In the team there is a key therapist who is responsible for collaborating with the person’s support networks and is the direct contact for the person with Autism and their family.

Role and Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will work closely with a senior clinician for coaching and support.
  • Successful applicants will work as part of a trans-disciplinary team that includes speech pathologists, psychologists, and occupational therapists.
  • This role will include the implementation of evidence-based therapy services, to a small caseload as well as participating in training within our consultative and direct therapy services model.
  • Knowledge and skills will be assessed at the end of the 6-month program to determine if the candidate is ready for a transition into a key therapist role.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy.
  • Eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia or Registration with AHPRA.
  • Sound problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A passion for working with children with autism and their families.
  • Experience in the field of disability or working with young children in educational or therapy-based settings is desirable.
