Alcohol Change Australia is a newly formed alliance of key national public health and not-for-profit organisations, which aims to influence national policy to reduce alcohol harm in Australia. The members of Alcohol Change Australia are:

The Executive Officer position will be auspiced by the Alcohol and Drug Foundation at one of its State or Territory offices.

For this role, we are looking for an experienced policy and advocacy professional to lead policy development, government relations and advocacy for Alcohol Change Australia. The role is responsible for developing policy documents (including submissions and position papers), building relationships with stakeholders, representing Alcohol Change Australia at meetings and in the media, and providing secretariat and administrative support to the Alcohol Change Australia chair.

A bit about you

To have success in the role you will be a highly motivated policy professional with excellent strategic advocacy and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.

You will have:

  • Extensive relevant work experience in public health and/or public policy, government relations and advocacy.
  • First-class policy research, analysis and development skills.
  • Ability to develop a deep understanding of complex policy issues and the impact of these issues on preventing and reducing alcohol harm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write clearly and persuasively for a range of audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and government relations skills including proven ability to consult, collaborate and develop effective working relationships with government and non-government stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with people with lived experience of alcohol harm.
  • Experience in advocacy and media advocacy, including proven ability to advocate effectively for adoption of policy positions.
  • Proven ability to make effective strategic decisions and exercise sound judgment in policy development and advocacy.
  • Proven ability to show initiative and think strategically and innovatively.
  • Excellent secretariat and project management skills.
  • Vaccination against COVID-19 (as per government mandates)
