About us

The National Centre for Action on Child Sexual Abuse (the National Centre) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation established to increase understanding of child sexual abuse, promote effective ways for protecting children, guide best practice responses and pathways to healing for survivors, and reduce the harm it causes.

The National Centre is a joint venture between Blue Knot Foundation, The Healing Foundation and the Australian Childhood Foundation with initial funding from the Australian Government. The three organisations have united to form an Australian-first partnership that will commission critical research, evaluate interventions and therapeutic programs, raise community awareness, reduce stigma and provide training.

The Role

The National Centre has an opportunity for a Research Manager to support the implementation of the Research and Evaluation Strategy. The Research Manager will take on a leadership role in the development and implementation of a high-quality research management system, high quality research governance processes and the coordination and administration of competitive research grant funding rounds.

The role will conduct a range of quality assurance activities, including critical assessment of research and evaluation projects and the coordination of peer review processes. The Research Manager will also support other research activities including; research coordination, writing of reports and other materials, grant applications, ethics applications, supporting research partnerships and the development and maintenance of a register of active research.

Qualifications & experience

Mandatory

  • A university degree in in social, behavioural or health sciences, and demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Experience coordinating or managing a range of research projects and/or programs, with the ability to deliver high quality outcomes on time and within budget
  • Strong writing skills with experience writing and preparing reports, factsheets and other resources for publication that are accessible to diverse audiences
  • Strong understanding of research governance practices and frameworks that comply with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines for all human research activities, ensure scientific quality, are ethical and safe
  • Experience preparing submissions and reports for human research ethics committees and/or grant applications
  • Demonstrated high level project management, organisational and administrative skills with the ability to effectively prioritise to meet conflicting deadlines and achieve defined outcomes
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict management skills, including the capacity to build and maintain positive professional relationships and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders
  • Appreciative understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the ability to build and manage relationships with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community

Desirable

  • Experience implementing research grant processes and research management system that is are transparent and efficient
  • Experience collating evidence such as through systematic reviews, literature reviews, evidence mapping
  • A track record of peer-reviewed published research
  • Knowledge of child sexual abuse, child protection, victims and survivor impacts
