Outline & Purpose of Role:

Australia for UNHCR is an international aid agency that raises funds from Australian donors to support the humanitarian operations of the UN Refugee Agency. Established in 2000 as part of a global fundraising network it has now raised more than $330 million from a broad network of individuals, community and corporate partners.

We are looking for a motivated, resourceful and engaging Philanthropy Manager, with a passion for the work we do, to join our high-performing Philanthropy and Partnerships team in this newly created position, and work closely with them to develop and implement initiatives which identify, cultivate and manage relationships with new and existing major and middle donors and prospects and support and drive the strategy to grow the program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Philanthropy & Partnerships team, develop initiatives to identify, cultivate and solicit make sustainable and substantial philanthropic gifts.
  • Support stewardship of major and middle donors and manage a portfolio of donors with the aim of increasing their engagement.
  • Identify and cultivate prospects and ensure they are stewarded and nurtured to optimise long-term value.
  • Provide portfolio development support, strategic counsel and assist with donor communications.
  • Research and identify projects and products appropriate for major donors.
  • Maintain accurate records and report progress using specific metrics.
  • Prepare proposals, reports and materials to present to major donors.
  • Work with the PPH team throughout the appeals process, including development and execution of appeals.
  • Attend UNHCR’s events as appropriate to represent the organisation.

The successful application will possess the following attributes:

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification or related experience in NGO.
  • Well-developed relationship management and engagement skills.
  • Passionate about engaging with supporters to help refugees.
  • High level interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence, build and maintain relationships with a wide range of supporters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong internal direction and motivation, and effective time management skills
  • Excellent creative thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable

  • Experience working with a relational database, ideally Raisers Edge or similar platform.
  • Demonstrated success in building brand awareness.
