About the roles

Assist newly arrived individuals, groups and communities of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (especially those from refugee backgrounds), to better understand and independently access the Tasmanian health system. Two positions are available and will focus on working with the Afghan and Hazara communities of Launceston and Hobart. 

The position in Hobart will focus on working with the Oromo community. Prior experience working with the Oromo community would be highly regarded and knowledge of Oromo language is essential.

What you will bring 

  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting culturally and linguistically diverse newly arrived communities, especially those with a refugee background
  • Ability to assist with planning and coordinating information or training sessions
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with a wide range of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Understanding of health issues (including harmful traditional practices such as Female Genital Mutilation) that affect new arrivals and their connection to the Tasmanian health system
  • Prior experience working with, and being respected by the Afghan community would be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of Dari and Farsi languages is essential
