As a key member of the ATSICHS Brisbane team, the WHS Advisor is expected to personally contribute to the shaping and achievement of ATSICHS vision and goals within their own scope. The WHS Advisor will provide three (3) Key Functions:

Role Functions 

The WHS Advisor will assist with work health and safety implementation, incident and injury management across the organisation as per ATSICHS Brisbane’s Quality Policy and Procedures Manual. They will also work collaboratively with key internal contacts to ensure relevance and effectiveness of frameworks and processes as well as working with People & Culture and Learning & Development to identify training needs and requirements.   

Organisational Contributions 

The WHS Advisor will be involved in the development and implementation polices/procedures. To ensure ATSICHS long term stability the position will be involved in supporting systems and frameworks ensuring individual project’s/program’s design and objectives are met. The position will assist positive change through continuous improvement within ATSICHS as per the National CQI Framework for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care 2015-2025. Furthermore the role will assist the Manager, Safety & Quality in developing and implementing processes to ensure service improvement continues to develop in a positive way.  

Contribute to the Development of a Flourishing Team 

Provide effective leadership, guidance and support to staff to ensure a flourishing workplace culture that promotes the ethos and values of ATSICHS Brisbane as a long standing Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation. 

Essential:  

  • Diploma of Work Health and Safety (or above) 
  • Fire Safety Advisor  
  • At least 5 years previous experience in WHS roles 
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience in WHS methodologies. 
  • Experience in managing Workcover cases 
  • Demonstrated experience in comparable not for profit, government or private sector organisation. 
  • Demonstrated experience in networking and liaising with relevant external stakeholders.  
  • Demonstrated ability to meet targets and performance outcomes. 
  • Ability to assist people through cultural change and change management opportunities. 
  • Ability to assist continuous improvement model for achieving outcomes. 
  • Decisive listening, influencing and persuasive skills. 
  • Ability to utilise participative practices and adopt a supportive leadership style to achieve real and tangible quality outcomes. 
  • Working with Children’s Card (Blue Card) or be eligible to apply  
  • Drivers licence   

Desirable, but not mandatory: 

  • Work Place Trainer and Assessor  
  • Rehabilitation and Return to Work qualification 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services sector.
