ATSICHS Brisbane is a not-for-profit community owned health and human services organisation delivering on the unique health and wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in greater Brisbane and Logan. We are the largest, most comprehensive Aboriginal Medical Health Service in Queensland, and Australia's second oldest. Our services include medical and dental clinics, mums and bubs programs, an aged care facility, family and child safety services, foster and kinship care, social and emotional wellbeing services, kindergarten programs and a youth service.

Jimbelunga was established in 1994 to provide culturally appropriate, quality care for all our ATSI & wider community aged care residents. Allied health services compliment care being provided in a homelike environment.

Position Outline

The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) delivers high level care to Jimbelunga residents as directed by the Registered Nurse (RN), Enrolled Nurse (EN) and Manager, to observe and report changes in resident status and deliver personal care, in accordance with ATSICHS Board of Management objectives within legislative and regulatory requirements.

Skills, Competencies, Qualifications, Education and Experience

  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and their cultures and a general understanding of the issues that are affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society
  • Effective communication skills. Both written and verbal
  • The ability to work independently, under guidance or direction and within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Effective organisational and time management skills
  • Adequate physical health and ability to perform varying physical tasks
  • Genuine interest in Aged Care
  • Possess Certificate III in Aged Care or ability to obtain the same within 6 months of employment

Must have "National Criminal History Record Check" or "National Police Certificate" prior to commencing.
