Senior Director, National Aboriginal Art Gallery - Alice Springs

The National Aboriginal Art Gallery is the centrepiece of the Territory Arts Trail and will be dedicated to the display, celebration and interpretation of Aboriginal art. It will host a globally significant art collection that celebrates the world’s oldest continuous cultures, brought together under one roof in the heart of the nation.

As Senior Director, you will lead the delivery of the National Aboriginal Art Gallery. You will work with a diverse group of stakeholders, including Federal Government, key philanthropic organisations and corporate Australia to facilitate partnership opportunities and investment models.

Your knowledge of the Arts will assist you to engage with the Arts community to identify nationally significant artworks and exhibitions for display. A proven ability to develop digital strategies that unlock innovative display opportunities and engage international stakeholders is essential.

You will use First Peoples’ Principles to facilitate meaningful partnerships with Traditional Owners, to ensure social, cultural and economic opportunities for Aboriginal Territorians are prioritised throughout project development and delivery.

In addition, you will represent and promote the interests of the project at high-level committees, and will be required to prepare high-level submissions, reports and policy advice for the Chief Executive Officer and Minister.

To be successful, demonstrated experience in the management of strategic projects and a proven record of delivering results through the cultivation of productive working relationships is required. Knowledge of the arts and museum sector (or transferrable skills) and a sound understanding of Commonwealth/State relations and policy processes will be essential. As the successful applicant you need to communicate with influence and work with people from diverse cultures, and display a high degree of cross-cultural competency.

A tertiary qualification in Social Policy, Arts Executive Management, or Public Policy, and membership of a relevant professional organisation, will be looked favourably upon. A sound understanding of collections of works by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists with cultural, historical and social significance will be well received.
