The Asylum Seekers Centre’s (ASC) Employment Service assists people seeking protection living in our community to rebuild their working lives in Australia. We support candidates and coach them in their job seeking journey to gain meaningful employment and financial independence.

THE ROLE

The Employment Coordinator is responsible for expanding and engaging the network of Partner Employers, recruitment agencies, social enterprises and community organisations that offer employment and training to work-ready people seeking asylum in Sydney. This involves marketing candidates to a wide variety of targeted businesses to secure life-changing employment opportunities.

This is a full-time position for a fixed term of 12 months, with the possibility for extension.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage and expand the network of Partner Employers
  • Develop and deliver a business development plan based on an understanding of current job growth areas and the skills and abilities of current clients
  • Manage relationships with Partner Employers, recruiters, social enterprises and community organisations supporting the Employment Service
  • Coordinate and provide post-employment support to employers and clients
  • Market and successfully place candidates with a wide range of employers and recruitment agencies
  • Ensure candidates are well prepared for interviews and ready to commence employment with Partner Employers
  • Coordinate workplace support for placed candidates, including mediation and intervention when needed
  • Help to develop, implement and run a brokerage service between Partner Employers and registered training organisations
  • Ensure the accurate and up-to-date capture of Partner Employer information on the database

SELECTION CRITERIA

To be successful in this position, it is essential that you can demonstrate in your application:

  • Significant experience in recruitment, human resources or business development
  • Ability to communicate a clear vision of the Employment Service and gain agreement and support for it from employers
  • A strong understanding of the issues affecting people seeking asylum and the barriers they face to gaining employment
  • Demonstrated ability to build, manage and maintain excellent working relationships at all levels of an organisation
  • Highly developed interpersonal, listening and communication skills to engage with a broad range of people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to motivate, support and inspire employers and people seeking asylum in a complex and challenging environment
  • Highly effective organisational and administration skills
  • An energetic, positive attitude and willingness to engage constructively with a broad range of clients, volunteers, employers and staff
  • Specific knowledge of the asylum seeker sector or other similarly marginalised communities
  • Business, commercial and entrepreneurial skills and knowledge of different industries

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ASC is delivering services differently. The successful candidate must be flexible to work from the office or work remotely as necessary.

DESIRABLE

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, marketing, human resources or humanitarian areas
  • NSW Driver’s License
