The NLC is an independent statutory authority of the Commonwealth responsible for assisting Aboriginal peoples in the Top End of the Northern Territory to acquire and manage their traditional lands and seas.

The Minerals & Energy Branch is a dynamic work unit with a focus on providing a high-level of service to the NLC’s constituents. The Minerals & Energy Branch is responsible for a substantial portfolio of minerals and energy projects, including management of statutory and other functions in relation to minerals and energy exploration and production.

The principal objectives of these Senior Project Officer roles is to represent, assist and advise traditional Aboriginal owners and native title holders in relation to minerals and energy projects. Key tasks include the provision of advice and undertaking consultations and technical assessments related to environmental, social and cultural impacts. 

Relevant tertiary qualifications or at least five years’ experience in a similar role, with knowledge and understanding of environmental management systems and principles is essential. Previous experience working for Indigenous organisations, government or within the minerals and energy or environmental sectors is desirable.

Applicants must possess strong computer, administrative, planning and budgeting skills, and an understanding of the minerals and energy sectors and relevant legislation. You will use your knowledge of technical matters, Aboriginal culture and your high level communication skills to effectively consult with Aboriginal people, and display a high level of professionalism.

Travel to remote areas using 4WD vehicles is involved so possession of a driver’s licence and the ability to safely drive 4WD drive vehicles is essential.
