The People and Culture Manager will support managers to ensure we get the best out of Assistance Dogs Australia’s (ADA) staff and volunteers, situated around Australia. You will be responsible for developing and implementing organisational development plans to achieve our growth strategy and goals. You will be responsible for embedding appropriate people and organisational solutions, policies and practices to enhance ADA’s values-driven and people-focused culture.

About Us

Assistance Dogs Australia is a national charity celebrating its 25th year of training specially bred dogs to help people living with disabilities. Assistance Dogs are placed with clients free of charge, and are supported for their working life of around 10 years.

KEY TASKS

Provide advice to managers with people and organisational development plans, and support managers to implement them.

  • Lead the organisation through a process of cultural change, working with senior managers and external facilitator, and successfully embed the outcomes in the organisation.
  • Develop a clear understanding of ADA’s people, capacity and structural needs and develop a human resources plan which supports delivery of our growth strategy.
  • Work with managers to identify training and other opportunities and coach mangers to develop and implement learning and development plans.
  • Support managers in building succession plans to ensure the organisation’s skills and capability needs are met.
  • In consultation with Senior Managers, improve and implement ADA’s performance management system.
  • Ensure the performance management system is embedded into the organisation’s culture, coaching managers and staff in how to use.
  • Support Managers in the development of an annual resourcing plan, assist with ongoing recruitment and selection.
  • Review ADA’s induction pack and ensure staff and volunteers receive in a timely manner, coach managers in the delivery of the pack.
  • Lead change management requirements to support growth of the organisation in the areas of people, skills and culture.
  • Work with external workplace relations agency to provide support to managers on employee matters.
  • Provide training, support and advice to managers when required.
  • Undertake a review of pay, benefit and reward levels and provide advice on pay structure in line with national award guidelines.
  • Foster employee engagement, leading internal communication initiatives across the organisation.
  • Review and maintain people policies.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

Selection criteria

  • A passion for making a difference within the not for profit sector.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to critically identify ADA’s people needs.
  • Track record of supporting and mentoring managers and providing credible advice.
  • Excellent communicator, tailoring communications to different audiences.
  • Ability to promote cross team collaboration and form effective working relationships across the organisation.
  • Able to travel within Australia.
  • Love dogs!
  • HR operational management experience, working at a senior level
  • 5+ years’ experience in responsibility for recruitment, employee relations, performance management, change management, capacity building, learning and development
  • Knowledge of HR best practice, with a focus on strengthening organisational culture
  • Experience in transitioning an organisation through growth
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and relationship building skills with the ability to collaborate and build relationships.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively, manage competing priorities and work under pressure when required.
