Assistance Dogs Australia are seeking an exceptional leader to join our not for profit organisation in the role of Chief Operating Officer / Deputy CEO.

We are looking for a hands-on passionate leader who is engaging, goal oriented, well organised, self-motivated and who is keen to contribute within a charitable organisation that is about providing life changing opportunities to our clients through our exceptional assistance dogs. You will bring natural ability in creating, nurturing and developing relationships in order to achieve your goals. You will have a strong client and service driven focus and a keen desire to work as part of a team in order to make your impact at ADA.

About Us

Founded in 1996, Assistance Dogs Australia (ADA) breeds and trains dogs that specialise in support for people with a physical disability, autism, or PTSD. In addition, ADA also provides a range of services such as dog assisted occupational therapy and other in-house developed programs supporting both schools, prisons and individuals.

Our Assistance Dogs provide independence, self-esteem, improved health and relationships to individuals and families – resulting in stronger and more inclusive communities.

About the Role

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will provide leadership and development to the Dog Welfare & Breeding and Client Services team across Australia (our staff are currently in Queensland, NSW & Victoria). The COO will hold accountability for the effective delivery of all client, dog and volunteer related programs in accordance with ADA’s strategy. Experience in this field is a must.

The COO will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and leaders within the broader organisation in meeting all established goals and operating priorities of ADA.

You will drive success through strategic planning, execution and further developing opportunities through your client/service focused approach. Your natural ability with people and ease in developing relationships will ensure future growth and success in this role as you deal with a diverse stakeholder group.

The role is also eligible for 'not for profit' salary packaging - up to $15,900 a year

About You & Your Experience

  • You are an approachable, engaging and empathetic person, with a strong history in leading teams and client or volunteer groups
  • Experience in canine breeding, behaviour and welfare management
  • Strong ability in coaching, mentoring and developing a team
  • You will have proven success and experience in building and managing strategic relationships with a diverse base of both internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience in managing projects and negotiations
  • Financial acumen with proven experience managing an operations budget
  • High level organisational skills
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
