About You

You are someone with a strong commitment to human rights and person-centred approaches. You will be familiar with supporting people with a disability (physical, developmental, psychosocial), their families and support teams to assist them to achieve their goals. You will be an excellent team member and communicator, and able to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a holistic approach to high quality positive behaviour supports. This role is a great fit for a skilled case manager or clinician with experience in complex behaviour. Applications from provisional psychologists with relevant skills and experience will also be considered. Behaviour Support Practitioner roles have previously been approved by AHPRA as a part of the 5+1 internship pathway to registration as a psychologist.

About the Role

We are excited to be building our capacity to provide specialist behaviour support to NDIS participants across our Belconnen areas of operation. As our new Behaviour Support Practitioner, you will be responsible for providing specialist behaviour support services to NDIS participants and their support teams across the lifespan.

Integral to your success will be your customer focused people practices and your ability to role model our organisational values.

What success looks like

  • Develop and implement individually designed customer Positive Behaviour Support Plans within specified timeframes, including complex case management as part of creating those plans
  • Assist customers, their families and support teams to identify their needs through assessment and individual planning, to develop meaningful goals and practical strategies to support customers to meet their goals in their home and community
  • Support customers, their families and care teams to understand the function of complex behaviours and work to provide behavioural alternatives that meet the customers' needs.
  • Work in a multi/trans-disciplinary model with a range of allied health professionals to provide a holistic and integrated approach to supports
  • Provide clinical knowledge, training, expertise and support to individuals, families and support staff

Skills that make you stand out...

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Disability or Social Sciences
  • A knowledge of and commitment to Positive Behaviour Support approaches, including functional behaviour assessment, development and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
  • An understanding of (or willingness to learn) relevant policy and legislation relating to Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practices at a National and State/Territory level.
  • Experience working with individuals, families and children with a disability (physical, development, psychosocial).
  • Experience providing consultation, training and/or coaching to teams, families and/or supports.
  • Ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders including individuals, families, support team, Local Area Coordinators, NDIA, the Office of the Public Guardian, government agencies and specialist support services.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and time management ability.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Current driver's licence and a willingness to drive
  • Working with Children Check and Police Check clearance
