Environmental Field Officer - Byron Bay

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and hardworking individual to join our team! Here at Arbor Metrics we use state of the art technology to understand the natural world around us. Our primary focus is measuring biomass. Through the methods we use, we can quantify carbon stored in living matter. In addition, our services provide an insight into forests as never seen before. This particular role involves 10 days of fieldwork followed by 10 days off. In your 10-day expeditions you will be required to operate a Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS), work as a team, take turns cooking and setting up camp. Fieldwork will be conducted throughout all of Australia and you will be either driving to the sites from Byron Bay, or flying to more remote areas. On your 10 days off you will have the option to be trained for data analysis and work at our office.

The following skills/experience is required:

  • Physically fit – able to carry 20kg easily and walk up to 10km a day
  • Able to work in a team of 2-6 people for extended periods
  • Experience camping
  • Experience in the bush
  • Current drivers licence
  • Experience working in the field
  • A keen interest in nature, as demonstrated by the pursuit of study of the natural world in either a formal or self-directed manner
  • Experience working outdoors in physically challenging conditions
