Western Australian Recovery College Alliance

Background

Western Australia Recovery College Alliance (WARCA) is a cultural shift in existing mental health and Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) services, breaking down barriers between consumers and clinicians. The first trans-regional service in WA providing services for those people with co-occurring mental illness and AOD issues. The College welcomes people with lived experience, carers and family members, those who work in the mental health and Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD), health and human service sectors, and interested community members to develop skills, share knowledge and experiences relating to health and wellbeing. It provides the clinicians the opportunity to take their experiences back to their clinical services and implement change.

WARCA’s principles are based on the use of inclusive educational approaches in a safe and welcoming environment to support personal recovery relating to mental health issues, addiction and substance use issues. It is person-centred (focusing on the person’s strengths and wellness) and provides courses available for anyone who wants to learn about improving general and mental health, and issues related to AOD use.

WARCA’s vision is that everyone works together to encourage and support people who experience mental health and AOD issues to stay in the community and live a meaningful life.

The Recovery model adopted for WARCA is to bring together the expertise of lived and learned experience who will work side by side in co-producing to co-delivering the course.

The role:

Reporting to the WARCA Principal, the Outreach Coordinator will primarily be responsible for leading and holding the strategic vision of the college as well as actively promoting and representing the WARCA in the community whilst also acting as a link between the College and the community.

In addition the WARCA Outreach Coordinator, in conjunction with the College leadership team, will lead the implementation of Recovery focussed education across services holding accountability for the enrolment of students, development of student learning plans and the general day to day running of the College.
