HelpingMinds is part of a consortium led by Carers WA as Regional Delivery Partner (RDP) for the Integrated Carer Support Service (ICSS) known as the Carer Gateway, which incorporates providing supports to carers identified in the Carer Recognition Act who provide daily care and support to people with disability, medical conditions, mental illness or who are frail aged.

The role:

We are seeking an individual with a strong passion and drive to engage and provide counselling support to adults and young people, as well as groups. The successful candidate will provide a positive representation of the HelpingMinds brand while establishing and fostering close working links with relevant service providers in the area.

This position will be based in our Broome office however will also require outreach work.

Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide a counselling service to young people (0-18) at risk of developing mental health issues and adult carers, including Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) carers
  • Maintain a client and service delivery load of 4 recordable hours a day
  • Employ both a brief intervention model for working with clients as well as therapeutic interventions where appropriate for the support HelpingMinds offers
  • Establish self-help Support Groups for Carers and provide support to the group once it is established
  • Develop wellbeing care plans with clients and utilising a strengths-based approach, discuss the issues and impact of mental health and apply goal setting and identifying support networks
  • Develop other strategies to strengthen family members’ personal resilience and social support networks
  • Represent HelpingMinds at seminars, meetings and workshops as required

What you will need to succeed:

This is an opportunity for a client focused Family Support Counsellor with a genuine interest in working collaboratively to ensure effective team goals and client outcomes are met.

With a degree-tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work you will pride yourself on being self-motivated, with the ability to work autonomously while continuing to build strong relationships with the community and other agencies.

Additionally, you will have effective oral and written communication skills in order to provide advocacy services to clients.

What you’ll receive in return:

  • Remote allowance of $15,000 per annum (pro rata)
  • $78,000 - $91,000 (pro rata) salary inclusive of the above remote allowance
  • Annual travel concession payment upon 12 months service
  • District allowance (per fortnight)
  • Four weeks annual leave (pro rata) with 17.5% leave loading
  • An additional 5 days annual leave (pro rata) upon 12 months service
  • Two additional wellness days per year to support your own mental health
  • Individual one on one and group reflective practice supervision monthly
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Program
  • Annual flu vaccination
