The Opportunity

As a Software Developer in our Registry Product team you’ll play a key role in the development and maintenance of APNIC’s registry software. You’ll work on software that is critical to both the smooth operation of the global Internet and to APNIC’s role as a Regional Internet Registry.

On a typical day you’ll find yourself:

  • Developing in Java and Perl on the backend and Javascript on the frontend
  • Deploying your code into an environment that is partly RPMs on Linux VMs, and partly Docker containers in Kubernetes
  • Working on projects related to the development of APIs and enhancements to our Member Portal

You will also find yourself:

  • Throwing your ideas into the planning process to help direct future activities
  • Discussing best practices as part of our commitment to continual improvement and learning

About You

To be successful in the role you’ll have a true passion for software engineering and be comfortable owning your work through all stages of the SDLC.

In detail, your background should include:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience)
  • A working knowledge of:
    • Web services
    • Relational database design and implementation
    • Linux/Unix environments
    • Source control and code management (e.g. Git)

It would also be nice if your background included:

  • Spring

  • Docker, Kubernetes, Sensu, Puppet
  • Distributed deployment environments, service-oriented architecture
  • User-interface design and information architecture
  • TCP/IP and Internet applications, addressing structures and schemes

Team and cultural fit are equally as important to us as your technical know-how, so you should demonstrate:

  • High-level capacity for adaptability, flexibility and commitment, and the ability to apply sound judgment and reasoning, particularly when under pressure
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships across all levels of the organisation
  • Strong administrative, planning, time management and organisational skills

APNIC prides itself on providing a supportive and inclusive multicultural environment with opportunities for personal growth and development.

Who are we and what do we do?

As the Regional Internet Registry for the Asia Pacific, we work for the good of the Internet and the 4.5 billion people who use it across the region. We're a Not-For-Profit and are responsible for overseeing the distribution of IP addresses – and wider Internet addressing services - to governments, organisations and individuals. We also provide support to our membership of more than 8,000 across 56 economies.

Why is this so important?

The people who created the Internet decided right from the start that it should be a public resource and that it needs to be managed and shared in a fair way. We help make that happen. By managing fair access to IP addresses, and delivering support and guidance to those who are using them, we enable and promote an open and equal Internet in Asia Pacific and beyond.
