Position overview

The College of Arts and Social Sciences is seeking a committed, strategic, and versatile Level B or Level C academic to lead the Freilich Project for the Study of Bigotry. The Freilich Project is a philanthropically funded unit in the College of Arts and Social Sciences. The Convenor, Freilich Project for the Study of Bigotry is expected to lead and facilitate the activities of the Freilich Project for the Study of Bigotry, to advance the studies of bigotry and social justice scholarship, and to raise the profile of this research across the university and beyond. 

The successful candidate will be a strong researcher (or show clear potential to develop excellence in their field of research) and possess well-developed administrative skills. They will provide leadership for the Foundation, participate and build upon the existing program of activities, participate in teaching and supervision, and develop relationships with relevant units within the ANU and external organisations. The position is available for 3 years initially, at 0.5FTE (equivalent to 2.5 days per week) with total full-time workload to be negotiated with the academic’s local area. 

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is the largest single College of seven Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 46 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and two ARC Laureates. A hub of vibrant activity, we host more than 100 lectures, concerts and exhibitions each year, most of which are open to the public. Our students, staff and graduates come from more than 60 nations, bringing a diversity of perspective to campus life.
