The Australian National University Sport and Recreation Association Incorporated (ANU Sport) is a not-for-profit organisation that delivers sport, fitness and recreation services and opportunities to the ANU community (ANU students, staff, alumni and broader ACT community). ANU Sport is a UniSport Australia and Elite Athlete Friendly University member institution. The ANU is a member of the Group of 8, Australia’s eight leading universities.

ANU Sport aims to facilitate connections within the ANU community through health, well-being and sport. Our aim is to enhance and grow the opportunities for the ANU community to engage in sport, fitness, and recreation, and live balanced lifestyles. ANU Sport is responsible for the operation and management of the ANU Sport Fitness Centre and all ANU sport and recreation facilities, along with supporting over 30 sport and recreation clubs and delivering social and competitive sporting programs. 

ANU Sport is governed by a volunteer Board consisting of the following director positions:

  • 6 positions elected by ANU Sport members (with 2 year terms);
  • up to 3 positions to be appointed by the Board at its discretion (with 1 year terms);
  • 1 position to be appointed by the University in its discretion.

The Board is currently calling for expressions of interest for appointed Directors, to serve for until the next AGM in May 2025, with the opportunity to be appointed for further terms.

Expressions of interest are sought from potential candidates that will have knowledge, qualifications and experience in one of more of the following areas which have been identified as priorities by the Board to completement existing Board skills:

  • Strategic level marketing / digital / media communications
  • Media and Public Relations / Crisis Management
  • Research evaluation and monitoring
  • Human Resource management
  • Governance

The volunteer role involves:

  • Attending and contributing to Board meetings approximately every 6 weeks;
  • Attending and contributing to 1-2 Board subcommittees, which are currently: Governance and Risk; Finance and Audit; Club Review Working Group and Blues Awards, and meet as required;
  • Attending and contributing to strategic planning discussions, held approximately 2 times per year;
  • Attending the Annual General Meeting in May; and
  • Contributing to out of session decision making required from time to time.
