Animo
  • Casual position: $40.83 per hour + superannuation
  • You choose your hours, high level of autonomy, no fixed office location
  • Support individuals who are a part of the NDIS with psychosocial disability (mental health)

ABOUT ANIMO:

Animo is a new community mental health organisation that provides services through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).We employ mental health support workers who meet with NDIS participants one on one.

We meet clients in their homes, and in the community to support them to achieve their goals and live their best quality of life.

We pay well above the minimum award rates as we want to attract the highest level of staff possible to support our clients ($40.83/hr, plus super, with additional penalty loadings on weekends and public holidays).

ABOUT THE POSITION:

When you start work with Animo, we will connect you with requests for service from clients in your area. You can then decide when you would like to work with those clients, and commence working with them (usually on a once or twice per week basis). This means you have significant control over how much and when you work, so you may schedule your work around other commitments as you like.

It can take a short while to build up to your desired number of hours per week. We aim to have most people attaining their desired workload within 4 weeks of commencing with us, though it can sometimes take a little longer.

You will work with each of your clients for an agreed amount of hours per week, depending on the funding that is available in their NDIS plan, and their own preferences. Eventually, you will have a stable roster of clients that you see at the same time each week in an ongoing fashion.

To give you a sense of what the day to day job may look like, here are some examples of things that we might do with our customers:

  • Meet them in their homes for a cup of tea and a chat about how they are travelling that week
  • Help them with their daily living tasks, such as shopping for groceries or attending a doctor's appointment
  • Going for a walk in the park and enjoying nature
  • Helping with personal administration, e.g Centrelink, paying bills, looking for housing
  • Supporting them to feel more confident in busy social situations by going to the local shopping centre together
  • Improving physical health by supporting them to attend a gym or exercising outdoors
  • Helping them to live independently by assisting with gardening or cleaning at home

Animo is a remote organisation with no fixed office location. You will work mostly independently, although your supervisor will be there to support and guide you, and assist you with any practice related issues that arise.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills, comfort meeting and engaging new people
  • Prior experience in a mental health or community-related role. If you do not have such experience that is ok, explain in your application how your professional/life experience gives you the ability to work effectively with people who are experiencing a range of serious mental health challenges
  • Are looking for a consistent and stable routine where you work roughly the same hours every week
  • Have the ability to manage your own roster and work independently
  • Are looking to commit to at least 12 months in the role so as to ensure a stable and consistent service for your clients
  • Confident using basic office technology (Microsoft Teams, email etc) and your own phone and computer to use for work purposes (logging shifts, contacting clients etc)
  • Access to a car and a current driver's license (you will be required to transport clients in your own vehicle, but you will be reimbursed per kilometre for this)
  • Desired: relevant training/education, such as:
    • A degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field
    • A Cert IV in Mental Health, or related field
    • A certificate in Standard Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
    • PLEASE NOTE: Dependent on experience, we may request that you obtain a Standard MHFA certificate at your own expense within your first three months of employment at Animo. Find out more about MHFA here
