About the Position

In Darwin, we welcome the new ‘Enhanced Care Program’ that will support young people experiencing complex mental health issues. The program will provide intensive coordinated care that addresses the challenges young people may experience in accessing appropriate and effective mental health treatment. In Katherine, we welcome the opening of the new headspace Katherine hub, which will provide primary mental health services for young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns.

In the role of Aboriginal Community Engagement Youth Participation Worker, you will provide coordinated community engagement and youth participation activities with young people, their families, friends, service providers and community members to raise awareness of youth mental health issues within the Katherine region. Utilising early intervention and prevention strategies, you will deliver mental health literacy sessions and workshops in a youth-friendly, culturally safe, interactive and engaging way across a number of environments.

To be successful:

  • You will have a Certificate IV and or 3 years experience in mental health, youth work, population health or community services. You will also possess a passion for youth mental health and a keen interest in improving service, access and cultural safety of youth services in the Katherine region
  • This is an Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander identified role. Prior experience or at a minimum demonstrated commitment to working respectfully with Indigenous and culturally and linguistically diverse young people, communities, staff and Aboriginal Controlled Organisations

Please note: It is a requirement that prior to commencing in this role, you must possess an Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance), a Criminal History Check and a current Northern Territory manual driver’s licence. You must also be willing to undergo a National Child Protection Check prior to employment with Anglicare NT.

Experience of working closely with and having a strong understanding of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander culture would be considered an advantage.
