The Position: 

We are seeking an experienced AOD practitioner to provide outreach intervention and support to young people in Melbourne's North Metro Region.  The AOD Youth Support Worker will provide Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) treatment and support to young people with extremely complex life issues and who present with at risk behaviours. This program utilises an assertive outreach and strengths based model, providing support to young people (12-25 years) who require early intervention and/or alcohol and drug treatment to stabilise, reduce or cease harmful alcohol and drug use. The program provides linkages to a range of specific support services provided locally, including Anglicare Victoria services.

To Be Successful in this Position You Will Need: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, Welfare Work and/or Community Development and at least two years’ experience in working with people with AOD issues.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working with disadvantaged and marginalised young people, experience in working with young people with complex needs and challenging behaviours
  • Ability to practice and educate others in a range of AOD interventions.
  • Demonstrated understanding of care planning and case management approaches.
  • Understanding of the principles of harm minimisation and approaches to the treatment of AOD problems including relapse prevention
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the legislative and operating environment of the Child Protection and Youth Justice systems

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
