What is “The Orange Door?”

A key recommendation of the Royal Commission and the Roadmap for Reform was to establish a network of Support and Safety Hubs (Hubs) across Victoria. The Support and Safety Hubs are now referred to as The Orange Door

The Orange Door delivers a fundamental change to the way we work with women, children and families and men by providing a more visible contact point so that people know where to go for specialist support. Operating as a whole of family, integrated approach including a focus on perpetrators of family violence, to keep them in view and hold them accountable for their behaviour.

The Orange Door is an accessible, safe and welcoming to people, providing quick and simple access to the support and safety they need.

The Role

Our Orange Door Practitioners will provide an initial contact point/ for women, children, young people and families experiencing family violence; perpetrators of family violence; and families in need of support with the care, development and well-being of children. 

With a background in Children and Families and/or Family Violence, supported with qualification in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline you will work within a trauma-informed framework to support and empower clients. 

As an Orange Door Practitioner you will support people with advice with a focus on risk assessment, engagement, provision of an initial response and as a source of information to people referred to the Hub. You will work collaboratively as part of an integrated practice approach to respond to family violence and children and family vulnerability concerns through the provision of:

  • Delivering of screening and triage, assessment, crisis responses, service planning, targeted interventions, Allocate and coordinate referrals
  • Management of Caseloads as a lead practitioner or support worker if required
  • Collaboratively working with the Hub team to support integrated risk assessment and planning, including participating in case conferences, meetings and the resolution of stakeholder issues.
  • Carrying a level of responsibility for decision making to identify, assess and prioritise risk and needs of women and children, families and perpetrators

To Be Successful in this Position You Will Need:

  1. A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Early Childhood Specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with substantial experience; or associate diploma level with substantial experience in the relevant service stream.
  2. Demonstrated experience working with children and families and/or family violence where there are complex needs and risk issues.
  3. Resilience to work with and support clients who have been exposed to trauma.
  4. Demonstrated ability to identify, assess and prioritise risks and needs of clients in a whole of family approach.
  5. The ability to recognise and identify limits of own expertise and to seek advice or refer clients to other specialists.

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
