About the role:

Our Navigator program is an innovative, research-informed program that assists disengaged learners to re-connect back into education and learning. 

The primary aim of this role is to provide case management for young people (12 - 17yrs) who have disconnected from school and alleviate barriers to young people participating in mainstream education and support families to encourage access. A key focus of this role is working with Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Youth and Families.  The role works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team comprising of a Team Leader, Intake and Assessment Workers, Case managers, Youth Counsellor, a Groups Facilitator and other relevant services.

To be successful in this Role You will Have:

  1. A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with substantial experience; or associate diploma level with substantial experience in the relevant service stream, or less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level.
  2. Experience and knowledge of Victoria's Traditional Owners and Aboriginal people and communities, their culture values, protocols and other issues relevant to Aboriginal communities.
  3. Ability and experience in case management with young people, families and/or significant others and to contribute to the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of student re-engagement plans.
  4. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work with government and non-government organisations, mental health services, community groups and clients’ families/networks.
  5. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team, and to contribute to program development, implementation and evaluation.
  6. Knowledge of service supports available to assist young people and their families (knowledge of the social demographics and community services within the Western Melbourne Area is useful but not essential).

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
