About Us

We offer a comprehensive network of services and seek to ensure the provision of high quality services that will bring about significant improvements in the life experience of the young people, children and families/caregivers with whom we work.

The Live-In Mentor’s role is to live at the designated property with a young person aged 16-18 and provide direction, encouragement and support within the household. Live-In Mentors are required to act as positive role models and assist the young people in the house to develop independent living skills. They are expected to demonstrate a positive and balanced lifestyle and be engaged in some form of employment, study or training. They are also required to participate equally in domestic chores and duties and to ensure that any conflicts arising within the household are dealt with in a positive and productive manner.

Live-In Mentors are not paid workers but volunteers and we currently have opportunities in Bendigo.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • This is a volunteer position and no wage or salary is paid however rent free accommodation, furniture and utility costs are covered.
  • Bendigo based opportunities available.
  • The occupant of this position recognises the importance to advise the program supervisor of any proposed absences as early as possible prior to a session commencing to allow adequate alternative arrangements to be made.
  • All volunteers participate in training and supervision as well as extensive ongoing support.
  • All volunteers of Anglicare Victoria are subject to a six month probationary period.
  • Occupants of this position are subject to a satisfactory Criminal History Check prior to commencement and will be required to hold a current Working with Children card, and a valid driver’s licence.

Essential

Live-In Mentors are assessed on the following 5 key competencies:

  • Ensure a safe environment that is free from abuse
  • Demonstrate a personal readiness and capacity to become a Live-In Mentor
  • Good understanding or willingness to learn about adolescent development and trauma
  • Promote the positive development and independent living skills of young people
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Engaged in paid employment and/or study

Desirable skills, knowledge, and experience

  • Voluntary and/or mentoring experience with young people
  • Positive interpersonal skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people in the community.
  • A background in community services, education, health or emergency services will be highly regarded.
