The Program

The Victims Assistance Program aims to assist victims to effectively manage the damaging consequences of violent crime and to minimise the secondary victimisation sometimes associated with involvement in the criminal justice system.

This position is based in Bendigo, Echuca or Kyneton with regular travel throughout the Loddon Mallee region as expected and required.

Qualifications: Tertiary qualifications (or working towards) in Social Work, Human Services, clinical Mental Health, Criminal Justice or a related field and/or experience within the community sector in a trauma related field.

Your new role

As one of the two Koori Engagement Worker Roles you will be responsible for:

  • Providing direct Case Management to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island victim/survivors 
  • Community engagement, including developing relationships with other Aboriginal community providers to continuously improve services for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Island Victims
  • Case Management to high-risk family violence victims/survivors and men experiencing family violence
  • Building rapport and trust with Aboriginal Victims of crime to support them to navigate the Criminal Justice System
  • Provide psychological first aid, information, referral, casework, and advocacy and case management services to victims of violent crime.

Stakeholder Engagement and Community Education

  • Liaise with other service providers in relation to individual client’s.
  • Support processes and partnerships with other organisations, particularly the police and Aboriginal Services, to improve coordination of care; including co-location at Victoria Police Stations.
  • Participate in community education activities that promote and inform others about VAP.

Accountability

  • Record case notes and other client information in line with Anglicare Victoria standards and practice.
  • Engage with Aboriginal Services and the Community to strengthen partnerships
  • Complete reporting as needed.
  • Undertake professional development and supervision.

  • Salary $82,000 to $86,000 plus super plus salary packaging (Level 5 SCHADS)
