The Position:

The key purpose of the position is to provide a telephone Intake service a range of counselling interventions to assist clients to change harmful behaviours resulting from problematic alcohol and other drug use

A day in the life of this position includes, as a member of the Intake Team, responding to telephone inquiries, completing AOD Intake Screening and providing Brief Interventions as required.  Conducting Comprehensive Assessments; providing counselling treatment; liaising with external services (such as GPs, housing, mental health services) to facilitate referrals and collaborative practice; developing individual plans (for treatment, exit and post treatment); attending clinical reviews; working closely with colleagues to deliver coordinated treatment; supervising students; data collection and completing case notes and client documentation.

To Be Successful in this Position You Will Need:  

  • Relevant health and or welfare tertiary qualification such as Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or Allied Health Sciences
  • Certificate IV in AOD or have completed the required competencies (or able to complete within the first 12-24 months of employment - see position description for more details)
  • Experience in the provision of Intake, Assessment and Counselling services preferably with AOD or dual diagnosis clients
  • Experience in therapeutic approaches and proven ability to effectively work with people and families experiencing problematic alcohol and other drugs use in a respectful, compassionate and positive manner.

Please Note: It is mandatory for the successful applicant to hold a current Working with Children Check, a First Aid Certificate and be prepared to undergo a National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
