The Cultural Practice Lead is a newly created practice leadership position to be embedded in our Children and Families services.

The Cultural Practice Lead will work in close partnership with the Children and Families Leadership team, Children and Families staff and Anglicare’s Cultural Capability Facilitator.

Reporting to the Operations Support Manager, you will be responsible for leading consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and clients, and cultivating culturally responsive practices amongst Children & Families services.

The Children & Families Leadership team are looking forward to welcoming this important new role to the team. With an established Operational Plan in place, the Cultural Practice Lead will be responsible for implementing the strategies set out in the plan, including designing processes for staff engagement, supporting services to embed Anglicare’s Cultural Capability Framework, and further developing key partnerships with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Organisations.

Anglicare’s Children and Families services are provided across South Queensland stretching from north from Hervey Bay down to the south of Gold Coast and out west to Roma. To engage effectively with our teams, some travel will be required, however the office base location for the position is negotiable with locations at Brisbane or Underwood.

Some of the duties involved in this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Act as a subject matter expert on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander matters by contributing to complex case panels; development and review of Children and Families policy, procedures, practice guidance and documentation and contributing to Children and Families strategic and operational projects
  • Provide consultancy, information and relevant advice to Children and Families leadership staff including provision and development of frameworks, tools, resources and practice materials
  • Provide advice, mentoring and coaching to assist in needs identification, risk reduction and quality practice
  • Develop, implement and lead strategies to consult with Children and Families Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to allow the voices of frontline staff to be captured as part of practice development
  • Contribute to leading Children and Families programs to action reform, including the Department’s strategic direction for First Nations children, young people, families and carers
  • Contribute to leading Children and Families programs to embed Anglicare’s Cultural Capability Framework within services.
  • Contribute to the development and lead the implementation of strategies outlined in the Children and Families Operational Plan
  • Provide guidance to leaders in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff in culturally safe and responsive way.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure Children and Families strategies and projects align with the Anglican Church RAP and Anglicare’s strategic direction.

What we are looking for

  • Experience working effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, having a clear knowledge and understanding of their societies and cultures, and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in contemporary Australian society
  • Experience working within the Child Protection context, including knowledge of legislative requirements, government regulations, and policy, funding and quality frameworks
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop client centred practices resulting in exceptional quality outcomes for children, young people and families
  • Knowledge of, and connection to community networks, peak bodies, business linkages and resources relevant to the sector
  • Ability to build, develop and maintain relationships between Anglicare staff, key Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and organisations and other stakeholders
  • Demonstrated understanding of how reforms are shifting practice and expectations in the Child Protection sector
  • Proven leadership and management skills within a child protection or community services context
  • High-level written, verbal and interpersonal communication, including liaison, negotiation complaint handling and conflict resolution skills

Additional specific requirements of the Role

  • It is a genuine occupational requirement of this role to identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, under S25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld)
  • Current Blue Card
  • Current Licensed Care Service Check (LCS)
  • Current Queensland Driver Licence
  • Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Health Sciences, Psychology or Social Sciences or a related field (highly desirable)
  • Post-graduate qualification in Leadership or Management (desirable)
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the service region
  • Current Covid-19 Vaccination Certificate
