headspace, Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation, provides vital early intervention mental health services to young people with mild to moderate mental health issues affecting their wellbeing. Our mission is to improve the mental and social wellbeing of young people by providing services that are welcoming, friendly, supportive and culturally safe.

About the role

This role will provide comprehensive clinical assessment and brief interventions for young people and their families. As a Youth Wellbeing Worker, you will:

  • Conduct initial screening assessments with young people and their families to provide an immediate response of either external or internal referral
  • Provide psycho-social assessment using the agreed headspace tool to determine client suitability for ongoing headspace services
  • Regularly liaise with local consortium members in the delivery and coordination of services
  • Build relationships with external service providers and report on opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships
  • Assist in the planning, development and delivery of community-based help seeking and mental health literacy education sessions, particularly in schools

This is a full time, permanent position based in Newman. You will be required to travel throughout the East Pilbara region providing an outreach service to young people.

Selection Criteria

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor level tertiary qualifications in Clinical Psychology, Psychology, Mental Health, Mental Health Nursing, Social/Behavioural Science, Social Work or a related discipline (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience working with and engaging young people with mental health, alcohol and other drugs, and other social issues
  • Experience in providing a clinical intake and assessment to young people and their families
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating youth programs, events or activities within a community setting
  • Highly developed cultural competency which will enable you to easily engage and build trust with people from diverse backgrounds, in particular Aboriginal communities
  • Well-developed stakeholder engagement skills

The successful candidate must also possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check, a WA Driver’s License and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Benefits

  • $92,100 per annum + 10% super (includes remote location allowance)
  • Rent subsidy up to $300 per week (eligibility criteria apply) + $1000 electricity allowance
  • Salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per annum
