About us

headspace, Australia's National Youth Mental Health Foundation, provides vital early intervention mental health services to young people with mild to moderate mental health issues affecting their wellbeing.

Our mission is to improve the mental and social wellbeing of young people by providing services that are welcoming, friendly, supportive and culturally safe. We have delivered the headspace Pilbara outreach service for 3 years and are excited to now expand with two new centres in Karratha and Hedland. As we prepare for this expansion we are looking for amazing people to join our team.

About the role

The Service Manager - headspace Hedland will lead, develop, manage & evaluate the operations of the headspace model which delivers high quality services outcomes to young people, their families and community services within the Town of Port Hedland and surrounding areas and the Shire of East Pilbara.

Your passion for leading and developing an amazing team will shine through in all you do. You will provide operational leadership to the Hedland centre staff, as well as outreach teams working in the East Pilbara. You will work closely with the Clinical Lead and headspace Area Manager to develop, implement and monitor programs, procedures and work practices.

You will build deep relationships with consortium partners, stakeholders and the local community. You will work collaboratively with private practitioners, MBS, consortium providers and stakeholders to ensure that any difficulties are identified and resolved to maintain the sustainable and ongoing delivery of their services. You will proactively integrate the use and promotion of telehealth and e-health resources.

You will maintain a focus on ensuring the headspace service is youth-friendly, person-centred and trauma informed. You will quickly become familiar with relevant governance and compliance requirements and will monitor, evaluate and maximise data collection in line with funder and organisational requirements.

You will be able to support the organisation of, and represent headspace, at a range of community events, promotional days and other activities. You will work professionally, be self-motivated and be able to apply cultural awareness and competence as you manage service delivery for Aboriginal young people and their families.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week),ongoing position and is pivotal in supporting the opening of the headspace Hedland centre.

About you

You are a passionate and talented individual who wants to lead and inspire a team to deliver quality services to young people and their families.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant clinical discipline including clinical psychology, psychology, mental health, mental health nursing, social/ behavioural science, social work, youth work or equivalent (an exemption to this essential requirement may apply to applicants who have demonstrated equivalent knowledge of and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people or who are Aboriginal)
  • Demonstrated experience at effectively leading and reporting on complex planning environments.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operational systems for a health or community services organisation, including effectively planning and allocating resources in order to maximise operational efficiency and meet funding deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience at managing all aspects of staff and team performance.
  • Proven track record in building and maintaining effective working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal communities and organisations.
  • Well-developed skills in the application of online technologies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people and professionals.
  • Detailed understanding of the Australian health care system, particularly the primary health and mental health areas, including the range of professionals and organisations that work within, or come into contact with the sector.

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year. A Working with Children Check and Western Australian drivers license will also be required.

  • $114,275 per annum full time + 10% superannuation (inclusive of 10% remote area allowance)
  • Generous rent subsidy of $350 per week (eligibility criteria apply)
  • In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum and not pay tax on that amount.
