About the role

The Child Sexual Abuse Therapy Service aims to reduce the harmful effects of sexual abuse on children, young people, adults and families. As the Child and Adolescent Counsellor you will assist individuals and families to manage trauma through assessments, counselling, safety planning, advocacy and group work.

This is a part time, 30 hours per week (Monday - Thursday), maximum term position until 30 September 2021, with possible extension depending on funding. The role is based in Kalgoorlie and will deliver outreach services to the wider Goldfields communities.

About You

You are passionate about your professional practice and specifically about providing person-centred, trauma informed and culturally appropriate services.

To be successful you will have the following skills and experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or related discipline
  • Additional relevant postgraduate qualifications and training (desirable)
  • Minimum of 2 years Counselling experience in working with children and families in a therapeutic setting, preferably in respect to child sexual abuse, inappropriate sexual behaviours and/or trauma
  • Group work experience with children and/or adults
  • Skills in conflict resolution, written, oral and interpersonal communication
  • Skills in engaging clients from aboriginal and other diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Basic computer skills (e.g. email, Word and Excel)
  • Knowledge of current theory, practice and issues related to child sexual abuse, inappropriate sexual behaviours and trauma
  • Employs an ethical and professional and person centred approach to practice
  • Ability to articulate and reflect upon personal and professional values/practice.

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check and hold a WA Drivers Licence.

Benefits

  • $88,325 - $92,324 full time salary range pro rata (inclusive of 10% remote localities allowance), with the possibility of applying for a 2.5% specified program allowance
  • Electricity allowance up to the value of $750 (pro rata part time staff) per annum
  • 9.5% superannuation
  • In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum and not pay tax on that amount.
