AMTA has a small, collaborative and highly motivated team dedicated to advancing the music therapy profession and providing professional and effective member services, regulation and advocacy. AMTA has a highly engaged membership supported by a Board, Chief Executive Officer, Secretariat, Advocacy Officer, Communications Officer, National Committees, sector Advisors and State Branches.

AMTA’s Policy Officer will be abreast of regulatory and legal frameworks, administrative requirements, professional standards, and training relevant to self-regulated allied health professions, including music therapy. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Board, Secretariat and National Committee Chairs, AMTA’s Policy Officer will maintain and develop administrative policies that support the daily operations of AMTA, and develop best practice professional standards and training policies that comply with regulated industry requirements and AMTA’s governing documents. Working collaboratively with AMTA’s paid and volunteer workforce, the Policy Officer will support AMTA’s strategic approach to professionalise AMTA as the “go to” peak body for the profession, and promote consumer confidence in safe, ethical and best practice music therapy by RMTs.

In close consultation with the Chief Executive Officer, Board, National Committee and other relevant National Committees and Secretariat, the Policy Officer will:

  • Review, develop and maintain administrative policies that will support the daily operations of AMTA that are incorporated in AMTA’s Manual Administrative Policies and Procedures – MAPP. This includes maintaining a MAPP register to log changes and manage updates etc.
  • Review, develop and maintain regulatory, professional standards and training policies that adhere to AMTA’s Constitution, Code of Ethics and industry standards (e.g. National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions, NASRHP etc)
  • Provide regular education to members regarding new professional standards and policies
  • Assist in the production of member friendly fact sheets, e-flyers or website and eBulletin content to assist in communicating policy update or changes, standards or other information for members and stakeholders
  • Oversee and support AMTA’s National Committees and Working Groups as approved by the Board and CEO (e.g. Education, Registration, Ethics and CPD Committees etc) in developing guiding and internal documents etc
  • Undertake special projects approved by the Board and/or CEO
  • Represent AMTA at internal and external stakeholder meetings when required.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the CEO to share with the Board
  • Meet regularly with the CEO, Secretariat, Committee Chairs and/or Advocacy and Communications Officers
