About AMSANT:

AMSANT is the peak body for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services in the Northern Territory and advocates for equity in health, focusing on supporting the provision of high quality comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal communities.

AMSANT has a vacancy for a highly organised and committed individual to provide high-level secretariat support to the Northern Territory Aboriginal Health Forum (NTAHF). The NTAHF provides strategic guidance on policy and planning issues for Aboriginal health in the Northern Territory. The independent secretariat office, based at AMSANT, engages with all partner organisations to support NTAHF activities, in collaboration with the Chairperson.

Primary Objective:

Provide high-level administrative and secretariat services to the NTAHF and selected sub-working groups. The role requires a motivated person with professional secretarial, computing, interpersonal and organisational skills. The right person will also have a genuine passion and willingness to contribute towards better health outcomes for Aboriginal people in the NT. In return, we will offer an attractive remuneration package plus six weeks of annual leave for the right candidate. A capacity for project research and policy development would be advantageous.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide secretariat services to the NTAHF. Detailed duties include but are not limited to:
    • organise all NTAHF meetings and respond to enquiries regarding meetings and the work of the NTAHF;
    • prepare agenda and coordinate the preparation of briefing papers and documents for NTAHF meetings and ensure circulation to partners/members no later than one week prior to the meetings;
    • provide clerical and administrative support, including minute-taking, for the NTAHF and monitor the progress of NTAHF actions;
    • Prepare NTAHF correspondence for the Chair's signature and undertake other follow-up action as required
  • Provide secretarial and administrative support to the convenors of NTAHF working groups as requested
  • Maintain and update administrative documents such as membership lists and guidelines for the NTAHF and its working groups
  • Monitor implementation of the NTAHF work plan
  • Undertake research and analysis and preparing briefing papers and reports as requested for consideration by the NTAHF

Selection Criteria:

Essential

  • Highly developed organisational skills including a proven ability to meet deadlines and perform under pressure
  • High-level administrative skills including word-processing and use of spreadsheets and professional secretariat skills including minute-taking and register maintenance
  • Demonstrated capacity to undertake research, understand complex issues and prepare complex reports and correspondence
  • Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively with people from a range of different social and cultural backgrounds, including people holding senior executive positions within government and non-government agencies
  • The ability to function effectively in an Aboriginal organisation and proven ability to work as part of a team or independently as required
  • Commitment to the workplace and professional confidentiality

Desirable

  • Broad understanding of the issues affecting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in contemporary Australia

Appointment Factors: (Appointment is subject to)

  • Willingness to undergo a Police Check
  • Ability to obtain a Working with Children’s Clearance
  • Current Driver’s Licence
