AMPARO Advocacy Inc. is a community based non-profit community organisation based in Brisbane that advocates for vulnerable people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds with disability.

We are seeking a person with a strong commitment to human rights and social justice principles, with community development experience, for the position of Multicultural Engagement Worker to work in Cairns on the ILC Individual Capacity Building Project.

This is a temporary part-time contract position for 12 months with the potential to extend this contract for a further 12 months, working a minimum of 25 hours per week at SACS level 4-5, with the option of Salary Sacrifice.

Selection Criteria

• A demonstrated commitment to the principles of human rights, social justice and inclusion and an understanding of the social barriers and issues that impact on the lives of people from CALD backgrounds.
• Experience in working with CALD communities, and strong cultural competence skills including experience in effective CALD focused community consultation.
• Experience in working with people with disability including an understanding of the life experiences of people with a disability and families, and knowledge and understanding of the NDIS including its benefits and possible access and implementation barriers.
• Knowledge of community development processes and a demonstrated capacity to deliver small workshops and presentations that meet the needs of people from a CALD background with disability.
• Experience in liaising and communicating with community and government stakeholders.
• Qualifications in Social Sciences/ Human Services or equivalent
• High level of communication and interpersonal skills
• Well-developed skills and experience in using Microsoft Office 365, including inputting data to Excel spreadsheets.
• A current open C class driver’s licence and access to a fully insured vehicle.
