The Victorian Refugee Rights Network helps support the goals of Amnesty International Australia’s refugee rights campaigns through its grassroots activism work on the ground in Victoria. As the Network Convenor you’ll lead the network by running monthly meetings, supporting with planning and delivery of grassroots activism plans, facilitating communication between activists and staff and performing other ad-hoc admin tasks.

The Victorian Refugee Rights Network plays a crucial role in sustaining and growing grassroots activism work for refugee rights in Victoria and the Convenor plays a crucial role in leading this group of activists. This role can be performed remotely from anywhere in Victoria however please note that monthly meetings happen in Melbourne.

This role is responsible for:

  • Collaboratively planning and supporting the delivery of a grassroots activism plan for your region that supports the broader goals of Amnesty International Australia’s refugee rights campaigns
  • Managing and supporting other activists in the Victorian Refugee Rights Network
  • Organising and running monthly network meetings
  • Acting as a liaison between Amnesty International staff, other Amnesty refugee rights activist leads around the country and the Victorian Refugee Rights Network
  • Recruiting and supporting new activists to the Victorian Refugee Rights Network
  • Performing ad-hoc admin tasks to ensure the smooth running of the Victorian Refugee Rights Network

Selection Criteria:

  • Please tell us why you're passionate about refugee and asylum seeker rights and about any experience you may have had (paid or voluntary) promoting and championing refugee rights within your community.
  • Please tell us about your organisational skills and give an example of a time in which you've used those skills to work proactively and independently to achieve an outcome.
  • Please give us an example of a time in which you used your interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with others to achieve an outcome.
