If you’re passionate about human rights and looking for a role where you can make real social change this is an exciting opportunity to join Amnesty International’s Impact team. Our Impact team delivers campaigns to ensure people’s human rights are protected in Australia and around the world. The full time Associate Campaigner - Indigenous role is responsible for delivering campaign tactics, campaign support and project support for the Indigenous Rights Team.

We’re looking for an experienced campaigner who has an in-depth understanding of Indigenous rights issues, a strong network and the ability to communicate with decision makers and people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally diverse backgrounds. This role requires strong interpersonal and organisational skills to develop and launch digital and offline actions using our website and email management platform, communications scheduling, and maintaining administrative systems that support Indigenous rights campaigns.

Ideally you will have:

  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and human rights issues
  • Digital and / or offline campaigning experience working with or volunteering for a campaigning organisation
  • Strong networks with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organisations and leaders
  • The ability to communicate with people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear written campaign documentation and analysis
  • Well-developed time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities with minimal direction
  • Demonstrated experience in or commitment to working with Indigenous rights holders and affected communities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

This is a full-time permanent position working 60 hours per fortnight, identified for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be required to complete the following selection criteria and attach your cover letter and CV. 

  1. Do you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person? Y/N
  2. Please outline your knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander human rights issues, and experience with working and communicating with Indigenous rights holders and affected communities
  3. Describe a time when you managed competing deadlines and priorities with minimal direction
  4. Explain the key factors you believe make up a successful campaign and your experience in campaigning, including working with volunteers and mass mobilisation
  5. Describe a recent time when you worked collaboratively in a team environment
  6. Explain your experience in public advocacy work including the media
