The Research Project Officer role offers a meaningful opportunity to drive impactful change in mitochondrial disease (mito) research. By contributing to vital projects, you will play a key role in helping Mito Foundation advance knowledge and treatment options for the mito community in Australia, ultimately improving lives and fostering hope for those affected by this condition. Candidates who possess a blend of research experience, project management skills, and a passion for nonprofit work will likely excel in this role.
This role has a dual focus on both grant management and general research support. This position involves working independently across multiple projects and tasks. Responsibilities include supporting the management of Mito Foundation funded grants across the grant lifecycle. The Research Project Officer will also develop and maintain internal databases for tracking research studies and produce high-quality reviews and reports to inform strategic decision-making. There is also the opportunity for this role to enhance research participation and impact by effectively communicating complex scientific information to diverse audiences.
This is a 12-month part-time (0.6 FTE) role which can be based in Sydney or Melbourne.
Mito is a potentially fatal genetic disorder that robs the body's cells of the energy they need to thrive. Only recently identified and originally thought to be a rare disorder (affecting 1 in 20,000 people) it is now known that 1 in 200 people carry genetic variants that put them at risk of developing mito or unknowingly passing the disease on to their children, and 1 in 4,300 people will develop this progressive and devastating disease.
Mito Foundation offers flexible working arrangements with attractive salary packaging options leveraging the foundation’s FBT exemption status to maximise your take-home pay.
