The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) has been defending Australia’s oceans and marine life for 50 years. We are looking for a passionate digital communicator to join our growing team and help drive real change for healthy oceans.

AMCS is one of Australia’s most influential environmental charities. We advocate for change to safeguard our oceans and the wellbeing of all life on our blue planet.

  • Location: AMCS National Office, Brisbane (preferred)
  • Salary: $68,000 - $77,000 per annum plus Superannuation contributions of 11%.
  • Hours: Full-time (38 hours per week)
  • Contract period: Two-year contract with a view to extension.

Purpose of the position:

The Digital Communications Campaigner plays a critical role in engaging and motivating AMCS supporters to take action on the big issues facing our oceans. You will deliver highly motivating email campaigns, develop creative and effective online actions, and manage supporter engagement and nurture programs - constantly deepening the impact our supporters can make for the protection of our precious oceans.

Reporting:

The position works within the Communications Team, reports to the Director of Communications and works alongside the Digital Content Producer and the Media Advisor.

Primary tasks and responsibilities:

Digital Copywriting

  • Provide email copywriting and editorial support to AMCS campaigns and fundraising programs, delivering high impact emails that motivate supporters to act.
  • Write high value copy and scripts for AMCS advocacy, awareness-raising, marketing and fundraising campaigns.

Email and digital marketing

  • Develop and deliver supporter retention, engagement and nurture programs to ensure AMCS supporters stay engaged and active in our critical work.
  • Maintain the AMCS email list, and undertake work to ensure our email reputation is high, segmentation and data management is accurate, and engagement rates are above industry standards.
  • Develop and manage digital campaigns and marketing programs for advocacy and brand building (such as billboards and digital marketing).
  • Develop lead generation strategies to grow the AMCS email list in key demographics of importance to campaigns.

Digital actions management

  • Work with AMCS campaigns staff to deliver online actions and supporter engagement tools.
  • Advise staff on online tools and digital strategies for campaigning and communications.
  • Regularly undertake reporting and analytics to monitor and drive ongoing improvement across AMCS actions.
  • Work with technical staff to maintain and improve digital action tools and suggest website optimisations to improve user experience.

Campaign communications support

  • Provide campaign messaging guidance and support as required.
  • Assist with management of social media and production of ad-hoc social media content to drive engagement with AMCS campaigns.
  • Provide backup media support, including the issuing of media releases and management of media calls on days the Media Adviser is not available.
  • Assist with copywriting and production of AMCS publications and other campaign materials.
  • Assist with production of digital content, including web assets, graphics or video production as required.
  • Coordinate and manage volunteer work plans for communications programs as needed.

Essential Selection Criteria

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar role at a not-for-profit, campaigning or community-based organisation.
  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to write compelling content that turns complex information into clear and motivating copy.
  • Demonstrated experience using mass supporter emailing systems such as Campaign Monitor or Mailchimp, including digital analytics and reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience using Content Management Systems such as WordPress and/or digital action platforms such as DoGooder or Nationbuilder, including analytics and reporting.
  • Demonstrated examples of being able to grow supporter lists and deepen supporter engagement.
  • Commitment to achieving positive change for our oceans.

Desirable Selection Criteria

  • Experience with Salesforce or other Customer Relations Management databases
  • Experience managing social media accounts for advocacy campaigns, charities or nonprofits
  • Multimedia design skills including graphic design, video production and editing
  • Media liaison experience
