Ambulance Victoria (AV) provides outstanding emergency healthcare and patient care, every time. In order for AV to continue providing this high level of care it needs to look after its own people. AV is seeking an experienced Chaplain to provide exceptional care and services for our people. This part time role will work 0.5FTE working 40 hours per fortnight across various days in accordance with the Ambulance Management and Administration Enterprise Agreement. In addition, this role will be regionally located in Bendigo, and functioning in the Loddon Mallee region.

About the role

Reporting to the Pastoral Care Lead/Senior Chaplain, the role plays an integral part in ensuring the well-being of our people by providing pastoral care services to meet the emotional, social, spiritual and pastoral needs of staff and volunteers and families.

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing support to all staff/volunteers and their immediate family to address questions about life and death, reality and meaning, fear and hope, stress and loss. Chaplains explore these issues in a confidential, honest, open and caring manner. Pastoral Care also supports long-term illnesses and injuries, assisting staff with issues relating to their relationships, stress and difficulties at work. This support is offered irrespective of religious background, denominational affiliation, or cultural heritage. Chaplains are also part of the critical incident response to the workforce along with peer support.
  • Developing trust and maintaining strong working relationships and partnerships, by working collaboratively and building rapport with internal and external stakeholders to foster a shared understanding of employees needs
  • Ensuring the credibility and integrity of pastoral care services is maintained by identifying and addressing deficiencies
  • Assisting in the development of educational programs and initiatives

About you

It is essential that you possess accreditation for ministry from within denominations or faith communities having, or eligible for official status with the National Council of Churches and/or Victorian Council of Churches, Faith Communities Council of Victoria; and/or are experienced in delivering and providing high quality pastoral care and chaplaincy services in a complex environment, preferably within the health sector or emergency services; Operate within denominational requirements and the Marriage Act; able to work in an ecumenical multifaith team; and preferably hold relevant tertiary qualifications and/or have background experience in Social Work, Psychology, Crisis Intervention and/or Emergency Management.

Your excellent verbal and written communication skills, coupled with your influencing and interpersonal skills, will enable you to convey clear messages and build and maintain effective working relationships. Your self-awareness, calm demeanour, empathy and affinity in working with people from a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural health or emergency services environment, will see you succeed in gaining credibility and support from others.

You will hold a current Victorian Driver's Licence and be willing to travel throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria.

AV has introduced salary bands, and this position is graded at AV3. The salary range for an AV3 position is $75,727 to $89,613pa Pro-rata, plus 9.5% superannuation. This role also attracts an annual after-hours allowance of $9,990.00pa.
