The Glen is seeking volunteers to help cook lunch (12pm) or dinner (5pm) during the week with flexible days depending on availability.
The cooking program creates an opportunity for clients who don’t have much experience to develop a positive attitude towards food and learn how to communicate in a team environment. The Glen hopes the boys can take this knowledge back to their families and children when they return home.
The Glen is a very unique work environment. We work with vulnerable Australians who have fallen through the cracks of society. Some of our clients are institutionalised, come from broken families and suffer from mental health issues. You can expect to hear inappropriate language from time to time. There will be difficult days so you will require patience, compassion, understanding and will need to tailor teaching methods according to the client.
The Glen is a planned and process-driven organisation, and you will be expected to use technology such as Microsoft Outlook email and calendars, Google to-do lists and Whatsapp to communicate with the team. There are times when things don’t go to plan, so expect the unexpected and be prepared to be flexible and dynamic.
Honesty is one of our values, so you can also expect honest feedback from other staff members when things can be done better. The Glen is an ambitious organisation, accredited under QIP and strives to continuously improve.
Volunteers are required to be available 9:30am to 12:30pm (Lunch) or 2:30pm to 5:30pm (Dinner) on Monday to Friday (Volunteers can choose which day they are available but are expected to commit to that day).
