Primary / Secondary Teacher - Alesco Illawarra Wollongong Campus

WEA Illawarra

Passionate teacher, but feel you can’t make the impact you want on your students as part of the “system”?

Need more flexibility and the chance to build meaningful relationships with students so you can help break through their learning barriers?

Believe that every student, no matter what has come before, deserves the opportunity to succeed and that they can with the right support?

Alesco Illawarra is an independent Special Assistance School for Years 9-12, registered and accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority. Based in Wollongong with additional campuses in the Southern Highlands and Shoalhaven, our purpose is to create capable, confident and self-assured young people who are connected to their community and able to forge a path to a productive future.

Many students enrolled at Alesco Illawarra have experienced trauma in their lives. Our students may have significant gaps in academic achievement and find it difficult to learn in a large group setting, while sometimes presenting with social-emotional problems in school.

We are looking for an excellent primary or secondary trained educator to fill a temporary vacancy working with our Stage 5 students until the end of Term 2, with the possibility of ongoing work until the end of 2020 and beyond.

Are you the one we're looking for?

This work is tough – but you’ve got grit.

Some days are disappointing – but you can recover from setbacks and stay positive.

A lot of the time things don’t go to plan – but you’re agile, responsive and flexible and can think on your feet and work to make the best of the situation.

Sometimes the students you work with will have challenging behaviours – but you understand they’re trying to get their needs met and haven’t yet learned positive ways to do that.

Sometimes your colleagues will frustrate you or let you down – but you respect them and know that they are as passionate as you are and we’re in this together for the right reasons.

If you are looking for an innovative, flexible, small school environment where you can really have an impact on the future of your students, we'd love to hear from you.

This position is classified as child-related work. A valid NSW Working with Children Check clearance is essential.

Alesco Illawarra operates under the auspices of WEA Illawarra, which is a not-for-profit Community College, Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and Public Benevolent Institution.
