The Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) was established in 2008 in response to community demand from Indigenous families who choose to enrol their children in boarding schools.

Bringing together the government and private sector, AIEF provides scholarship funding for Indigenous students to complete Year 12 or tertiary studies, with career support to help them make a successful transition to employment.

AIEF has grown from one scholarship student in 2008, to now supporting over 1,000 young Indigenous Australians from over 400 communities from every state and territory across Australia.

The Role

The Employment Advisor is responsible for promoting employment pathways available at AIEF Corporate Partners to AIEF Students, Alumni and other AIEF advisors. You will identify and research employment opportunities and pathways at corporate partners, including graduate, traineeship, apprenticeship, cadetship, work experience, general intake and location-based opportunities.

The Employment Advisor will work closely with other advisors and is responsible for the day to day delivery of a system that connects scholarship students and alumni with employment opportunities offered by AIEF Corporate Partners. The role also involves responsibility for the AIEF-BHP Tertiary Students, and Alumni; the AIEF Tertiary Internship Students; the AIEF Tertiary Students; and all Alumni employed at Corporate Partners.

This position is based in our Sydney office in Surry Hills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and research employment opportunities and pathways at corporate partners, including graduate, traineeship, apprenticeship, cadetship, work experience, general intake and location-based opportunities.
  • Use existing communication channels to inform AIEF advisors about AIEF Corporate Partners and the employment opportunities they offer.
  • Support advisors to connect students and alumni with employment opportunities at AIEF Corporate Partners.
  • Track AIEF students’ and alumni progress through recruitment processes in real time. Merge into last point.
  • Manage and support a cohort including the AIEF-BHP Tertiary Students, and Alumni; the AIEF Tertiary Internship Students; the AIEF Tertiary Students; and all Alumni employed at Corporate Partners.
  • Develop policies and procedures to ensure critical processes are documented.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness of relevant data for reporting and evaluation.

Selection Criteria

The right person for this role is a well-organised, enthusiastic, results driven self-starter who has:

  • Motivation for AIEF’s mission and alignment with AIEF values with a passion to supporting Indigenous students through education and employment.
  • Passionate and committed to supporting Indigenous students through education and employment.
  • Experience working with youth and a strong understanding of the experiences of young people seeking employment.
  • Experience working with corporate clients and stakeholders in the employment space.
  • Excellent communications skills with an ability to build effective and professional relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to solve problems, find solutions and demonstrate initiative.
  • A systematic and professional approach to work, with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Minimum 1 years work experience.
