About us

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to ‘Closing the Gap’ in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.

Anyinginyi consists of five different sections (Health Services, Business Services, Public Health Unit, Sports and Recreation, and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allow them to have a holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.

Anyinginyi's mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services featuring prevention and treatment in the Barkly region in a culturally responsive way.

As a small regional center, Tennant Creek does not have the facilities one would find in larger country towns like Katherine or Alice Springs however it does provide for all the basics that most people require. There is a supermarket similar to a large IGA store, Post Office, clothing and furniture stores, Pharmacy, Newsagent, two banks (ANZ & Westpac), restaurants and coffee shops, four hotels/motels, and a delicatessen. It also has sporting facilities (e.g. swimming pool, basketball courts, tennis court, football ground, car racing track), and several tourists attractions within easy reach Like our Beautiful Lake Mary Ann! 

About the Role

This role main objective is to Implement and provide the Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home-visiting (MECSH) Program in accordance with the MECSH program schedule

Provide assessment, screening, support, advice and referral services to vulnerable and at risk mothers, families and carer's with enrolled children to the age of three years old, living in Tennant Creek and surrounding communities and/or will work as part of the Anyinginyi Health team, supporting a multidisciplinary and integrated community based

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Improve transition to parenting by supporting mothers through pregnancy.
  • Improve maternal health and wellbeing by helping mothers to care for themselves.
  • Improve child health and development by helping parents to interact with their children in developmentally supportive ways.
  • Develop and promote parents’ aspirations for themselves and their children.
  • Improve family and social relationship and networks by helping parents to foster relationships within the family and with other families and services.

About you

To be considered for this position, you must be a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA Registration and acquire clinical skills and experience needed to work competently in remote areas. Related experience in Child and Maternal Health/ Development, Infant and Child Nutrition or Safety is essential, as is a strong knowledge of postnatal care, neonatal health and development, and breastfeeding experience.

Experience working with an Aboriginal organisation or communities will be highly regarded but is not essential, provided you are able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues pertaining to Aboriginal Primary Health Care and the social determinants of health in our surrounding communities.

An exceptional communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills needed to tailor your approach to the needs of each family and possess the ability to identify their strengths and build effective relationships with parents and children.

Visiting the homes of vulnerable/ at risk mothers throughout the Tennant Creek community you must be comfortable in providing support in a variety of areas and ensure there’s plenty of opportunity for discussion or clarification as you assist in clients fostering positive parenting skills and future-orientated families.
