Data and Technology Support Officer

Australian Greens (Victoria)

The Victorian Greens are looking for a great communicator with strong data management skills and user help desk experience. In addition to supporting our small staff team, you’ll be helping support hundreds of volunteers all across Victoria to use our CRMs, GSuite workspaces and other IT systems. Your work will help support our members to grow the organisation and campaign to get more Greens representatives elected to local council and state and federal parliaments.

About the role

Are you a clear and confident communicator who loves working with people and solving problems? As our Data and Technology Support officer you will be the first point of contact for users looking for help with our various IT systems and relationship management databases. You’ll need strong technical problem solving skills and the ability to quickly master new systems. You’ll be supporting users to gain appropriate systems access and make effective use of the critical online infrastructure that underpins their work.

In addition to running the helpdesk you’ll also be responsible for maintaining the quality of user entered data in our databases. You’ll deliver regular group training sessions (currently online) for volunteers and build a team of volunteer data coordinators who can support users in their local area. You’ll become a power user of our campaign systems and support others to use search building functions to create contact lists and complex contact filters.

About the Victorian Greens

Over the course of the last four decades the Greens have become the third force in Australian politics, with members elected to represent their communities at every level of government. We are a grassroots party that relies on the support of thousands of members and volunteers from across the state.

The Victorian Greens State Office supports party operations and the federal, state and local election campaigns in the state of Victoria. The Greens have 24 Councillors across Victoria and four state Members of Parliament and three Federal MPs in Victoria and are currently starting preparations for the 2021/22 Federal Election campaign.

The Greens are much more than an environmental party. The Greens are also working in many other areas to champion integrity, decency and fairness. As well as representing constituents, the Greens speak on behalf of those who wouldn’t otherwise get much of a say inside parliament: children, refugees, students, individuals and families living in poverty and, of course, our natural environment.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Administer user access: Ensure that the right people have the right access to all Victorian Greens systems including Nationbuilder, CiviCRM, GSuite, Ryver, and in-house campaign systems
  • Support users: Attend to helpdesk requests providing application, desktop and infrastructure support to our members, volunteers and staff
  • Manage data quality: Implement data quality control measures, attentively monitor systems and review and correct incoming data to ensure integrity
  • Support data volunteers: Recruit, train, build relationships and support local volunteer data coordinators; Build and manage a team of state office based data support volunteers; Run regular ‘data parties’ to enter, audit and maintain user submitted data
  • Train users and develop resources: Write and maintain user support guides; Develop and deliver training for key systems
  • Work as part of our collaborative state office team and complete other duties as directed

You are:

  • Committed to the values of the Australian Greens
  • Outstanding at organisation, prioritising competing tasks under pressure, and thrive in a fast paced environment
  • Confident with technology, quickly develop mastery with new systems, and are curious to learn new things
  • Experienced making innovative use of technology to solve organisational challenges
  • Enjoy working with people, helping to solve their problems and develop their skills
  • Experienced in preparing ‘how to guides’ and planning and delivering group training
  • Patient and a great communicator
  • Experienced with constituent relationship management (CRM) databases like CiviCRM and Nationbuilder

Bonus points for:

  • Understanding the role of data in modern election campaigning
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills
  • Working knowledge of SQL
  • Development experience (Ruby, PHP, JS) would be highly regarded, but is not necessary for the role
