Victorian Greens Senator-elect Lidia Thorpe is seeking a passionate and engaged person to join her team in the role of Community Campaigner based at her Melbourne office with an anticipated start date of early August (negotiable).

The Community Campaigner will be responsive to the Senator’s networks of constituents and supporters. They will engage with individuals and community campaigns, respond to constituent concerns or help them solve problems, and communicate the work of the Senator.

The person appointed may be required to represent the Senator at events and community meetings.

PAY AND CONDITIONS

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984, and employment conditions are outlined in the Members of Parliament (Staff) Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019. In addition to the salary, employer-sponsored superannuation of 15% is offered.

The position is part-time for equivalent three days per week (22.5 hours, work pattern flexible) and is offered at an Electorate Officer A classification with a salary of $68,482 per annum (applied pro rata) plus 15% superannuation. This role may involve occasional weekend or evening commitments, for which time off in lieu arrangements are offered.

This position is a non-ongoing part time contract from commencement to 30 June 2021, with the potential for extension.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  1. Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  2. Excellent organisation, prioritisation and time management skills
  3. Demonstrated experience in community organising, mobilising and event management
  4. Community organising experience in a civil society, community or environmental organisation
  5. Experience working directly with members of the public from diverse backgrounds
  6. Understanding of the context of Aboriginal rights and interests within Australian society and culture
  7. Ability to work effectively with volunteers including database management
  8. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a close team under time constraints, competing priorities and other pressures
  9. Commitment to the Australian Greens’ Principles and Charter
